Boy will have to grow up without father after fatal fight over Broward crash

Man who died after fight over crash was boy's father

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — On Tuesday, Camille Willoughby said she was heartbroken for her 5-year-old son, who will have to grow up without a father.

Her ex-husband Humphrey Willoughby died in the hospital after a fight with Wayne Brutton over a hit-and-run crash on Sunday in Broward County. He was 50.

“Humphrey was in a hit-and-run accident, and the guy caught up with him, and they had a fight, and he fell, and hit his head, and he is deceased,” Camille Willoughby said.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday near the 300 block of Northwest 29th Terrace.

“Nobody should die like that,” Camille Willoughby said. “A car can be fixed. It’s something that could have been worked out without people getting into an altercation and killing somebody over something that could have been prevented.”

Brutton, 57, was at the Broward County Main Jail on Tuesday morning in Fort Lauderdale, according to inmate records.

Brutton faced a manslaughter charge. Broward County Circuit Judge Frank Ledee was set to preside over the case.

Detectives asked anyone who witnessed the fight to call BSO Homicide Detective Louis Bonhomme at 954-321-4377.
