HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A 20-year-old woman appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Tuesday morning after police officers accused her of a hit-and-run crash with injuries that was caught on video in Homestead.
Vilma Martin-Aguilar faced a second-degree felony charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, court records showed.
“She struck a minibike, two people on a minibike, and then fled the scene,” Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer said during Martin-Aguilar’s bond court hearing.
The hit-and-run crash was on March 18 at Northwest 12th Avenue and 10th Street, according to a Homestead Police Department officer’s arrest report.
The minibike was traveling westbound on 10th Street, and Martin-Aguilar was driving a black 2015 Honda Accord northbound on 12th Avenue, according to the Homestead police officer’s report.
The driver of the minibike “failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, failing to yield the right of way,” according to police.
After the crash, the minibike’s driver and passenger “were ejected,” and Martin-Aguilar drove away.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel took the two injured to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.
The driver suffered “a laceration to his upper lip and other abrasions,” and the passenger suffered “abrasions to his hands and head ... experienced seizures, and was intubated,” according to police.
On Monday, a witness identified Martin-Aguilar as the driver and told police officers where to find the parked Honda Accord with “damage consistent with the crash,” according to police.
“A piece of the front left bumper recovered from the crash scene was physically matched to the missing portion of the vehicle, confirming involvement,” a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report.
Police officers arrested Martin-Aguilar shortly before 2:40 p.m. on Monday, in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and West Mowry Drive, according to the arrest report.
Miami-Dade correctional deputies booked Martin-Aguilar shortly before 10:15 p.m. on Monday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Glazer set her bond at $7,500.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Cristina Miranda was set to preside over the case.
