OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — Opa-locka police officers reported seeing a 27-year-old man firing a black Glock 43X handgun at a white tow truck, and ordering him to “Drop the firearm!” and to “Get on the ground!”
Steven R. Garcia complied, and police officers took him into custody shortly before 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the U-Gas gas station at 14471 NW 27 Ave., in Opa-locka, according to a police report.
Witnesses said Garcia was driving a black Infiniti Q50 when he struck the back of the tow truck, and blamed the tow truck’s driver, and demanded payment for damages, according to the police report.
“I am going to [expletive] bust you,” Garcia told the tow truck’s driver, while he racked the gun’s slide, according to the police arrest report.
Garcia, who was born in the Dominican Republic and lives in Allapattah, fired all of his gun’s 10 rounds, and crime scene technicians recovered the 10 spent 9mm shell casings, according to police.
The tow truck had six bullet holes, a stray bullet damaged the rear window of a parked black Mazda CX-5, and a stray bullet struck the south side of Jackson Soul Food, at 14511 NW 27 Ave., according to police.
Miami-Dade corrections booked Garcia shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to inmate records.
Garcia faced seven charges on Wednesday in Miami-Dade County: Second-degree felony attempted murder with a deadly weapon, shooting a deadly missile, using a firearm while committing a felony, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and three counts of criminal mischief.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Richard Hersch was set to preside over the case.
