WEST PARK, Fla. — A 66-year-old woman was behind bars on Thursday, accused of running over a 61-year-old woman who died at the hospital on Monday.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Karen Essick on Wednesday, and corrections booked her at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale.
The fatal hit-and-run crash happened on early Monday morning in West Park.
Essick was traveling eastbound on Hallandale Beach Boulevard, and Mishell Laurine Warner, a pedestrian, “was not in a designated crosswalk,” near Barry Road, according to deputies.
Warner died at Memorial Regional Hospital after deputies found her lying on the road at about 6:45 a.m. on Monday, according to BSO.
Essick faced charges of tampering or fabricating physical evidence and failing to stop and remain at the scene of an accident involving death.
