Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office gets federal funding

DORAL, Fla. —

Rep. Mario Diaz Balart celebrated receiving more than $5.2 million in federal funding for law enforcement in Miami-Dade County.

During a ceremony, Diaz Balart handed two big U.S. Treasury checks at the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office headquarters on Monday in Doral.

“This department is always at the forefront of technology,” Diaz-Balart said.

One check was for $4.2 million in equipment, and the other was for $1.05 million for a mobile command center.

“We have some really big things coming to Miami-Dade,” Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said.

The FIFA World Cup will have five matches in June and four in July in Miami-Dade County.
