Department of Transportation approves partnership between United Airlines, JetBlue

JetBlue and United Airlines can move ahead with their partnership after the U.S. Department of Transportation gives the go ahead.

The companies announced the move forward on Tuesday.

In May, the companies announced an agreement that would allow JetBlue’s TrueBlue members and United’s MileagePlus members to earn and use their miles on flights operated by either of the airlines.

The arrangement called “Blue Sky” would allow customers to also use their benefits, including preferred seating, free baggage and priority seating on either airline.

Fare prices for both companies would also be displayed on each other’s websites and apps.

The agreement would also mean that United Airlines would allow JetBlue more flights out of John F. Kennedy Airport in New York as early as 2027.
