The economic forum, which started in 1999, will be hosting 19 member countries in Doral, about five miles away from Miami International Airport.

“We will not make any money on it ... We are making a deal where there is not going to be money,” Trump said. “There is no money in it. I just want it to go well ... each country is going to have its own building ... it will be really a beautiful thing.”

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, and not Doral Mayor Christi Fraga and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levin Cava, were in the Oval Office during Trump’s announcement.

“Doral has been very, very successful. One of the most successful properties in the country,” Trump said about the golf club, which is about 13 miles away from the city of Miami.

Suarez, 47, said the summit will put Miami on “the global map with the great global cities” and prompt “a tremendous boom for the economy.” Fraga released a statement on X.

“The G20 is coming to Miami in 2026 -- and Doral is ready to shine,” Fraga wrote. “From business to culture, we’ll showcase our city on the world stage.”

Records show Fraga, 38, was a registered Republican until 2014 and a registered Democrat until 2024, when she changed her party affiliation back to the Republican Party. Levin Cava is a registered Democrat. Suarez is a Republican.

“The working people of Miami, the small business owners are going to benefit tremendously,” Suarez said, while standing near Trump at the White House.

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, a Republican and former Miami-Dade mayor, released a statement saying he was thrilled.

“As the Gateway to the Americas, Miami is a vibrant, diverse community that showcases the very best of our nation,” Gimenez wrote. “We look forward to hosting the world right here in the 305.”
