The Minnesota Star Tribune identified the ICE officer as Jonathan Ross and the victim as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who loved poetry.

“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving, and affectionate,” Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, told The Minnesota Star Tribune. “She was an amazing human being.”

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis released a statement saying Good was born in Colorado Springs.

Brian O. Hemphill, the president of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, wrote in a statement that Good was a 2020 graduate with a degree in English.

The Washington Post reported that Good’s daughter is 15 and her two sons are 12 and 6 years old.

“There must be a full investigation into this incident, and accountability. The American people deserve answers about what happened today,” Polis wrote.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said during a news conference that the ICE officer “used his training to save his own life and that of his colleagues. He was treated at a local hospital, has been released, and is now with family.”

The Minnesota Star Tribune reported Ross, who Noem described as experienced, also dragged and injured a driver in a separate incident last year.

“That very ICE officer nearly had his life ended, dragged by a car six months ago, 33 stitches in his leg, so you think maybe he’s a little bit sensitive about somebody ramming him with an automobile,” Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday.

Vance also said Good “was there to interfere” and claimed without sharing evidence that she was “part of a broader left-wing network to attack, to dox, to assault, and to make it impossible for our ICE officers to do their job.”

Vance added, also without sharing evidence, that “a group of left-wing radicals” has been “using domestic terror techniques” to stop immigration law enforcement.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz asked the feds to allow the state to investigate the fatal shooting.

“Minnesota must be part of this investigation,” Walz, a Democrat, said during a news conference.

On CNN, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said he was hoping for an independent investigation, transparency, and accountability.

“The tape is deeply disturbing to me, but I will acknowledge that I haven’t seen every single video, I haven’t talked to every witness, which is what I as a prosecutor would expect to do,” Ellison said.

On Fox News, Sean Hannity praised Gov. Ron DeSantis for his stance on immigration law enforcement.

DeSantis had recently highlighted that an operation involving federal, state, and local immigration law enforcement had resulted in more than 10,400 arrests in about eight months.

“If even just the red states did what we are doing, you would see those numbers go up,” DeSantis told Hannity about the operation’s arrests in Florida.
