White House: Biden to visit site of Baltimore bridge collapse on Friday

WASHINGTON – The White House announced on Monday that President Joe Biden plans to visit the site of the fatal bridge collapse on Friday in Baltimore and meet with Mayor Brandon Scott and Gov. Wes Moore.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited the site after the March 26 disaster and authorized the federal government’s first $60 million to help rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Labor Secretary Julie Su visited on Monday Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, said Biden planned “to see for himself” how the disaster happened and how the recovery was going.

A cargo ship from Singapore chartered by Maersk left the Port of Baltimore and lost power. It struck the bridge and six people vanished during the collapse. Divers have recovered two bodies.
