Threats against lawmakers prompt calls for more Capitol Hill security

WASHINGTON – U.S. Capitol Police reported arresting an armed Oregon man who was in a red car with a tri-cycle strapped to the roof on Wednesday near a barricade.

The 23-year-old man’s list of weapons inside the parked Subaru on Pennsylvania Avenue included a rifle, a pistol, knives, a bow and arrow, and axes, police said.

The incident comes a few days after the anniversary of a 20-year-old man’s failed attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania.

U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz is among the lawmakers who have felt the increase in threats. Last year, detectives thwarted convicted felon John Lapinski’s plot to kill him

Recent incidents of political violence also include the murders of Democratic former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in Minnesota.
