WASHINGTON — The U.S. House Ethics Committee announced on Monday that there was an investigation of U.S Rep. Eric Swalwell.
The investigation, according to a statement by the committee, centered on “allegations that he may have engaged in sexual misconduct, including towards an employee working under his supervision.”
On Sunday, Swalwell, 45, the House manager in President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, announced he was suspending his run to replace California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
“To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past,” Swalwell wrote.
On Friday, Swalwell shared a video.
“I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s,” Swalwell wrote on X.
