MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Alina Garcia, Miami-Dade County’s supervisor of elections, reported that the primary’s voter turnout increased from 12.5% on Tuesday morning to 18.8% on Tuesday evening.

Four civil rights attorneys from the U.S. Department of Justice were monitoring the polls during the primary elections in Miami-Dade County.

“We are very confident that everything is going to be just fine,” Garcia said about the DOJ’s announcement reporting that the “monitoring initiative” was “aimed at promoting transparency and an open flow of communication between poll observers and election monitors.”

According to unofficial voter turnout data, 243,225 cast their ballots, including 106,278 who voted by mail, 78,483 who voted on Election Day, and 58,364 who voted early.

Miami-Dade County has 772 precincts that opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.

Miami-Dade County has more than 1.28 million registered voters, including about 455,470 Republicans and 407,910 Democrats, according to the latest data released by Garcia.
