Trump on Israel-Hamas war: 'It's going to be nasty'

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump issued a warning on Monday after his administration released a new ceasefire proposal for Israel and Hamas.

The proposal would have Hamas release the rest of the Oct. 7 hostages, alive or dead, on the first day of the 60-day truce. In exchange, Israel would release jail inmates.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced Israel had accepted the proposal. Asharq al Awsat, a London-based Arabic newspaper, reported Hamas negotiators weren’t ready to accept.

During a news conference in the Oval Office, Trump warned that “it’s going to be nasty” if Hamas rejects the final U.S. proposal.

On TruthSocial, Trump wrote in a statement, “Everyone wants the Hostages HOME. Everyone wants this War to end!”

Six people died and 12 were injured, including six critically, after two armed Palestinians from the West Bank fired at civilians on Monday at a bus stop at Jerusalem’s Ramot Junction.

Israeli authorities identified the victims as Yaakov Pinto, 25; Yisrael Matzner, 28; Levi Yitzhak Pash, 57; Sarah Mendelson, 60; and two Rabbis, Yosef David, 43, and Mordechai Steintzag, 79.

An ultra-Orthodox military squad commander who was off duty and a civilian shot and killed the gunmen, who were identified as Mohammad Taha, 21, and Muthanna Amro, 20, The Times of Israel reported.

On X, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz wrote, “A mighty hurricane will hit the skies of Gaza City today, and the roofs of the terror towers will shake.”

The Israeli military announced that a 12-story office building was evacuated and demolished on Monday in Gaza City because Hamas was using it for surveillance.

State Secretary Marco Rubio met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss Gaza in April, and Trump met with him in July.

Oct. 7 is the second anniversary of the Hamas attack that killed about 1,195 people, including the 364 victims of the Nova Music Festival massacre.
