MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – You can probably hear it. Sprint qualifying is underway, and the energy around Hard Rock Stadium is already building ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix.
Video from Sky 10 show the dramatic transformation of the stadium grounds as Formula 1 fever takes hold once again.
If last year’s turnout is any indication, officials say the crowds could be massive.
According to the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, more than a quarter of a million people could attend the various F1 events throughout the weekend.
Among the sea of international fans are Claire MacKea and Richard Priwton, who made the trip from the U.K. and say they’ve already had a weekend to remember.
“This morning we went for a walk and we met George Russell and Kimi Antonelli just by chance! Oh my gosh!” said F1 fan Claire MacKea
When asked what was her race predictions for this weekend?
“I’d like to go for Lando,” said F1 fan Richard Priwton. “Miami was huge for him last year.”
With major events come major traffic adjustments. Road closures are already in place along NW 199th Street, including access ramps to the Florida Turnpike.
If you’re not a fan of Formula 1 — or the gridlock it can bring — you might want to steer clear of the area.
