The Panthers originally selected Ekblad with the first overall selection at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
He will join a core group of players that includes Matthew Tkachuk, Sasha Barkov, Seth Jones, Carter Verhaeghe, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Gus Forsling and Anton Lundell, all of whom are signed through at least the end of the decade.
After winning back-to-back Stanley Cups, it appears Florida is set up to continue succeeding for the foreseeable future.
