MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins were already looking to add a veteran cornerback even before Artie Burns suffered torn ACL this week.
Now, following that injury, they’ve brought in some experienced help.
The Dolphins have reached a deal with Jack Jones, a cornerback who previously played for the Patriots and Raiders, ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X Saturday.
He’s joining Miami on a one-year contract. The exact earnings of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
Jones was originally drafted by New England in the fourth round in 2022.
The Patriots waived him in November 2023 after he was benched for missing curfew during a road trip.
The Raiders picked him up off waivers, and he went on to start 16 games for them in the 2024 season.
During that time, Jones racked up 69 tackles, three interceptions, and even returned one for a touchdown. However, after the Raiders made changes to their front office and coaching staff, he was let go this offseason.
Jones has recorded four defensive touchdowns in his career.
With Miami’s cornerback group lacking experience, Jones will likely get a solid opportunity to compete for a starting job this season.
The Dolphins also announced that they released cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr. after signing Jones. Jones will wear number 23, the former number of Burns.
Jones was arrested on June 16, 2023, after authorities at Boston’s Logan Airport said they found a Glock box with two guns and ammunition inside a bag with Jones’ name on it.
He was initially charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, but those charges were eventually dropped.
Jones joins a cornerback room that includes Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Storm Duck and Kendall Sheffield.
