CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Quarterback Carson Beck was the center of attention Wednesday as the Miami Hurricanes held football Media Day on campus, just one day before the team opens fall camp.
The Georgia transfer, who was a backup when the Bulldogs won national championships in 2021 and 2022, is entering his first season with the Hurricanes after undergoing major elbow surgery that kept him from throwing for four months.
“It’s difficult. It’s painful. It’s not fun. I don’t suggest it,” Beck said of the recovery process. “Once I finally got to the point where I was able to throw again — and not even just throw, but get to the point where I could really throw and was 100% back and with no limitations — was awesome.”
Beck replaces last year’s starter, 2025 NFL No. 1 draft pick Cam Ward, providing head coach Mario Cristobal with a similarly experienced and talented presence under center heading into the 2025 season.
Just moments before practice, the Atlantic Coast Conference released its preseason media poll, projecting Miami to finish second in the conference — a placement that would earn the Hurricanes a spot in the ACC Championship Game.
The Hurricanes have never won the ACC title.
