MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins linebacker Willie Gay Jr. smiled on Sunday when asked why he hasn’t worn the team’s orange practice jersey yet, despite making standout plays throughout training camp.

“If they give me the orange jersey, practice is going to be lit,” the two-time Super Bowl champion said. “I’m just doing my job, making plays out there, but I’m not really too worried about it.”
Gay said he’s proud of how he’s performed so far in camp and is feeling healthy.
“I’m healthy — praise God for that — and I’m able to do my job to the best of my availability,” he said. “I think I’m doing pretty good, but obviously there’s always room for that, and I’m gonna do what I’m asked.”
When asked what part of his game he’s most proud of, Gay said, “Running, coverage. I feel like I’m doing pretty good, getting my hands on it, batting balls down. A couple of them was dropped, but I know in a game they’re gonna be picks if I get the opportunities. I usually don’t give myself praise, but probably pass coverage.”
Cornerback Storm Duck also spoke after Sunday’s practice. Duck was awarded the orange practice jersey by head coach Mike McDaniel for being a top performer in Saturday’s session.

Duck is in competition for a starting cornerback role after the trade of Jalen Ramsey and season-ending ACL injuries to Artie Burns and Kader Kohou.
He also spoke about the impact of newly signed defensive backs Jack Jones Jr. and Mike Hilton.
Center Aaron Brewer, who returned to practice Sunday, also spoke to reporters about having some early communication issues with Tagovailoa, which would’ve led to a game-changing play.
Brewer had a snap sail over Tagovailoa’s head early in the session — a play that would’ve been a safety — but rebounded and finished practice strong.
He spoke about the importance of consistency and playing alongside second-year offensive tackle Patrick Paul.

Starting right tackle Austin Jackson is expected to miss a few weeks with a lower-body injury but be on the active roster for Week 1 when the Dolphins open the season at Indianapolis. Larry Borom, signed in free agency this offseason, filled in for Jackson during Sunday’s practice.
The team also announced the signing of veteran offensive lineman Germain Ifedi, a former first-round pick by Seattle who has made 90 starts for six different teams.
The Dolphins return to the practice field at Baptist Health Training Complex on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
