MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins signed veteran offensive lineman Germain Ifedi on Sunday, adding depth to their front five as starting right tackle Austin Jackson recovers from a lower body injury suffered in training camp.
Head coach Mike McDaniel said Jackson, who missed nine games in 2024 after tearing the meniscus in his right knee, should be ready to start the regular season despite the setback.
The Dolphins waived rookie quarterback Brett Gabbert in a corresponding move and also activated safety Ifeatu Melifonwu off the non-football injury list.
Ifedi, a first-round pick by Seattle in 2016, has played in 117 NFL games with 90 starts across six teams.
Known for his position flexibility, he’s logged snaps at both guard and tackle, including 524 at left tackle and 13 at right tackle over seven games with Cleveland last season.
Defensive end Jaelan Phillips did not participate in Sunday’s practice after suffering a leg bruise during drills. He downplayed the injury in a post on X.
“I just got leg whipped yall chill out just a bruise,” Phillips wrote.
