FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Former Miami Hurricanes star linebacker Michael Barrow was arrested Monday night outside a South Florida airport after he accidentally struck his wife during a family dispute, according to a report.
Details of the arrest surfaced Wednesday, when South Florida radio host Andy Slater first reported the incident, citing a police account.
According to that report, Barrow was involved in an argument with a family member at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and swung a punch that accidentally hit his wife, knocking her to the ground.
Barrow, 55, is facing three counts of domestic battery, according to jail records obtained by Local 10 News on Wednesday. Additional information from his arrest report has not yet been released.
Barrow is considered one of the most accomplished players in Miami football history.
He was a two-time national champion, helping the Hurricanes capture titles in 1989 and 1991, and was named a consensus All-American and Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 1992.
He went on to an 11-year NFL career after being drafted in the second round by the Houston Oilers in 1993. Barrow appeared in 173 games with 153 starts, recording more than 1,100 tackles, 43 sacks and 22 forced fumbles.
