MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets are both looking to avoid an 0-4 start as they get ready to face off in a division clash Monday night, and head coach Mike McDaniel said his team is preparing for a Jets squad with a new look and energy under head coach Aaron Glenn.

“They’re schematically different. Coach Glenn has the utmost respect from me. He sees football differently than the last regime,” McDaniel told reporters Saturday. “They had a heartbreaker, and they’ll come in with a new identity. It makes them very different as an opposing team for us.”

McDaniel also provided updates on key players.

Tight end Darren Waller, who has not yet taken his first snap with the team due to a hip injury, is expected to play on a situational snap count.

“He brings a dynamic presence,” McDaniel said. “Defenses have to account for him whether he has the ball or not.”

Rookie running back Ollie Gordon II has made contributions on offense and special teams, and McDaniel said he hopes Gordon will continue to grow as a player.

“It takes a certain mindset to not start but then find ways to make plays,” McDaniel said. “Ollie has risen to every challenge and continues to develop.”

On the offensive line, McDaniel said Jonah Savaiinaea will remain at left guard for now. “We’re looking at a player’s strengths and weaknesses. For him, the way he’s gone all in, it hasn’t warranted a move,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel also highlighted the benefits of the short week after two consecutive division losses.

“It was fortuitous to have some extra time. You lose on Thursday night and have to sit on it all weekend. That motivates you as you get into the next opponent,” he said.
