ORLANDO, Fla. — A new era begins for the Miami Heat on Wednesday night as they open the 2025-26 NBA season against the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra says the focus is on growth, development and embracing a younger roster.

“Embracing the unknown,” Spoelstra said. “I said that the first day of training camp. I think our team is set up to have great potential for growth and as the season goes on, while we’re improving and while guys are growing, hopefully while guys are surprising us, hopefully we can get some w’s (wins) under our belt too.”

This year marks the Heat’s 38th regular season, and they’re aiming to make history by reaching the playoffs for a seventh straight year — which would set a new franchise record.

After being swept in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, Miami is looking for a stronger postseason run.

Last year, the team’s average age was just over 27. This year, it’s closer to 25 — a sign of the franchise’s commitment to a faster, more energetic style of play.

Tyler Herro remains sidelined for at least the first month of the season, giving younger players a chance to step into bigger roles early.

Among those expected to make an impact is Nikola Jović, the 22-year-old forward who signed a $62 million contract extension earlier this month. The team will also see the debut of forward Norman Powell, 32, who was acquired by the Heat in a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Chargers and Utah Jazz.

Last season with the Clippers, Powell averaged 21.8 points per game on 48 percent shooting — the most efficient and productive year of his career.

Spoelstra and the Heat face a strong opening test against an up-and-coming Magic team considered one of the Eastern Conference’s most promising squads.

Local 10 and the Miami Heat have also teamed up this season to bring fans 12 televised games, beginning Nov. 8, along with exclusive coverage and behind-the-scenes content throughout the year.

Tip-off on Wednesday is set for 7 p.m.
