TALLAHASSEE — Florida Memorial University has officially named Chandra Dorsey-Felton as its director of athletics, marking the first time a woman has held the position in the university’s history, the school confirmed in a news release Thursday.
“Today marks a historic and defining moment for Florida Memorial University. It is with great pride and unwavering confidence that I announce the appointment of Chandra Dorsey-Felton as our first female Athletic Director, officially confirmed from her interim role to permanent leadership,” said FMU President William McCormick in a statement.
“I am honored to have her lead our athletic program into its next chapter of growth, competitiveness, and integrity. Under her leadership, the roar of the Lions will be louder, prouder, and more impactful than ever before,” the statement continued.
Dorsey-Felton brings 25 years of experience in collegiate athletics and has held multiple leadership roles within FMU Athletics.
She joined the university as deputy athletic director for student success & compliance in September 2024 and was named interim director of athletics in October 2025, guiding the department through a transitional period.
In her roles at FMU, she has overseen 13 intercollegiate sports programs and managed areas including compliance, eligibility, and student-athlete development, ensuring programs meet NAIA standards while supporting academic success and overall well-being.
“Florida Memorial University has a proud tradition of excellence, and I am honored to lead this department,” Dorsey-Felton said in the news release. “Our focus will remain on developing student-athletes who succeed in the classroom, in competition, and in the community.”
The news release states that before joining FMU, Dorsey-Felton had a successful career as a Division I women’s basketball coach and administrator at schools including Tulane University, Texas State University, Wichita State University, McNeese State University, the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of Tulsa.
She is widely recognized for building competitive teams while keeping student-athletes’ academic achievements a top priority.
