MIAMI — It was a special Sunday at loanDepot park, where the Miami Marlins honored former manager Jack McKeon prior to their series finale against the New York Yankees.

McKeon, 94, led the Marlins to their second World Series in 2003, when the club defeated the Yankees in six games.

“The great, loyal Marlins fans. They pushed us,” a proud McKeon said on Sunday.

McKeon began the 2003 season in retirement, but on May 11, the Marlins turned to McKeon to replace Jeff Torborg.

McKeon remained the manager of the team until 2005, before retiring again at 74 years old.

In 2011, on June 20, after manager Edwin Rodriguez resigned, the Marlins held a press conference to announce that McKeon had been named the interim manager.

McKeon officially retired at the conclusion of the 2011 season.

McKeon retired with a win-loss record of 1,051-990. He is one of 12 managers to have a thousand wins as manager without having lost a thousand as well.

The Marlins can reach the .500 point for the first time since April with a win Sunday afternoon.
