INDIANAPOLIS — The Miami Dolphins have known since May who their Week 1 opponent would be, but they now know which quarterback they’ll face to open the 2025 season.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen announced that Daniel Jones has won the starting quarterback job over Anthony Richardson.
“I’ll start off by opening and letting everyone know that Daniel Jones will be our starting quarterback this season. I thought the competition in training camp was great by both of those guys,” Steichen said.
“He’s our starting quarterback for the season,” Steichen added. “I don’t want to have a quick leash on that. I feel confident in his abilities.”
Jones, 28, was signed to a one-year, $14 million deal with the Colts this past March after playing the first six seasons of his career with the New York Giants.
Richardson, 23, was drafted fourth overall by the Colts in 2023, but has struggled to stay in the lineup due to injuries.
When the Colts signed Jones, Richardson knew he’d be in a competition throughout training camp – and now, the former Florida Gator standout begins his third season watching from the bench.
