FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Fort Lauderdale United FC hosted Carolina Ascent FC in its second game of the season.
After a 3-3 thriller in its season opener, Fort Lauderdale looked to tighten up its defense in Saturday evening’s match.
However, just 40 seconds into the game, Fort Lauderdale conceded a goal.
The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
In the 71st minute, Fort Lauderdale defender Ella Simpson equalized to make it 1-1. Just 12 minutes later, striker Kiara Locklear gave Fort Lauderdale the lead.
Poised for its first win of the season, Fort Lauderdale needed only to hold on for 10 more minutes.
But in the 91st minute, disaster struck: defender Sh’Nia Gordon scored an own goal, tying the game at 2-2.
Fort Lauderdale missed out on the full three points and now sits in fifth place with two points.
Its next game is on the road against Brooklyn FC on Sunday.
