MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Less than 24 hours after his team was embarrassed by the Indianapolis Colts in all three phases of the game to open the 2025 season, Miami Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel met with the media at the team’s training complex for his weekly Monday availability.

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • McDaniel said right guard James Daniels (pectoral) and cornerback Storm Duck (ankle) will miss multiple weeks, with McDaniel saying that neither injury is a season-ending one.
  • Wide receiver Tyreek Hill has not caught a pass of 30 or more yards in a full calendar year. McDaniel was asked about it and gave a direct answer: “This last game, it was probably three different opportunities that the opportunity was taken away from him by his teammates’ lack of execution.”
  • Right tackle Austin Jackson, who appeared on the injury report Wednesday with a toe injury, is getting a second opinion. He hasn’t been ruled out for Week 2 against the New England Patriots on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. ET.
  • McDaniel said the team watched 93 of the 136 plays from Week 1. “That is not fun; yesterday wasn’t fun,” McDaniel said. He didn’t hesitate to call the result “embarrassing.”
  • McDaniel said right guard Kion Smith filled in well for Daniels. Nothing is set in stone, but Smith could start in Week 2.
  • On Dolphins fans’ frustration, McDaniel said: “Fans wanna win, and when you don’t, they don’t like it.” “My job is to focus on getting the stuff right,” McDaniel added.
  • Tight end Darren Waller (hip), one of seven inactives for the Dolphins in the season opener, will attempt to play in Week 2. If he can’t go, Miami will aim to have him ready for its Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 8:15 p.m. ET.

We’ll hear from McDaniel again on Wednesday, as the Dolphins begin preparing for their Week 2 home opener.
