MIAMI — A late-game collapse led to a crushing championship loss for the Miami Northwestern Bulls, who fell 23-22 to the Raines Vikings in the final seconds.

Raines, based in Jacksonville, trailed 22-17 before converting a fourth down with just seconds remaining. Moments later, the Vikings threw a touchdown pass to take the lead, sealing the comeback victory.

The loss marked a reversal from last year’s Class 3A state championship, when Miami Northwestern defeated Raines in a lopsided win. This time, the Bulls were unable to close out the game.

Miami Northwestern had strong support throughout the night, with a raucous crowd creating an electric atmosphere at FIU’s Pitbull Stadium.

Former Raines coach Reuben Lecount said the Vikings entered the game with a different mindset.

“Last year, mentally they weren’t ready,” said Lecount. “But this year, the team is stronger, better, speed-wise and everything. They got it.”
