MIAMI — CFP National Championship weekend kicks off Friday with fans getting their first taste of the action.
Playoff Fan Central opens to the public Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Miami Beach Convention Center, turning it into a hub for college football fans.
Over three days, the public can participate in interactive games, youth clinics, exhibits and more ahead of Monday night’s big game.
And just after noon, the energy will build on the University of Miami campus with students and staff set to gather for a lakeside patio pep rally.
“It is proving to be as exciting as we thought. It would be just given the buzz around the country about it,” CFP Executive Director Rich Clark said.
“Everybody can’t get a ticket to the game. If everybody can’t come enjoy in that way they might be able to watch it on TV but we want them to have a real experience with the College Football Playoff and this is a part of that,” he added.
On Saturday, the convention center will be open all day while both teams take turns meeting the media and possibly fans.
As the sun sets, the weekend will shift into concert mode.
AT&T Playoff Playlist Live opens at Lummus Park on Ocean Drive with Calvin Harris and John Summit expected to perform at a free event.
And Sunday shapes up to be one of the busiest days of championship weekend.
“We do expect large crowds so come early, but I think we have a plan to keep everyone safe and to have fun,” said CFP senior director Ryan Allen Hall.
Fans have the chance to take part in Trophy Trot, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at South Pointe Park.
Sunday night will have even more live music at Lummus Park with performances by Peso Pluma and Latin Mafia.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for the free event.
Championship Monday starts early with a 9 a.m. day of service at Booker T. Washington Senior High School in Miami, bringing volunteers together to give back on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
“Miami is special, period,” Clark said. “It’s a destination city. It’s somewhere that everyone wants to come.”
