CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami Hurricanes fans loaded up on last-minute merchandise ahead of Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship game against the Indiana Hoosiers.
That included shoppers at the Hurricanes Team Store in Coral Gables.
“I have to really thank all the fans that have been through here this last couple of weeks. It’s been amazing. What a run for us. All week after week after week, we’re playing one level higher against great opponents traveling across the country, back and forth,” Harry Rothwell, the store’s general manager, said.
Rothwell has been tied to the Hurricanes for 35 years.
“I’ve been very fortunate to be involved in the ’91 and the 2001 and almost the 2002 for at least a minute. And this is an exciting time,” he said. “A whole new generation of fans, you know, grandkids now from their kids that were at the other games, get to experience this.
“And the whole town has done a great job lighting up buildings and, I mean, people running around everywhere you go: they’re talking Miami Hurricanes. So this is a great, great thing for the city of Miami.”
