MIAMI — Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo was named the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for December, the league announced Wednesday.

It is the 10th time a Heat player has received the monthly honor and the sixth individual from the franchise to do so.

As part of the award, the NBA and NBPA Foundation will donate $20,000 to the Edrice Adebayo Foundation.

Adebayo was recognized for his community work during the holiday season, highlighted by hosting more than 2,000 students at his annual holiday toy drive at the Kaseya Center.

Children from underserved communities received meals and selected from more than 36,000 toys, with remaining gifts donated to local organizations.

During December, Adebayo also brought student-athletes from his hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina, to Miami for game-day experiences to reward their academic achievements and perseverance.

Additional students facing hardships were honored at home games and received care packages that included clothing and essential items.

Adebayo’s foundation also provided seat upgrades for fans throughout the month as part of its ongoing outreach efforts.
