Fort Lauderdale police said at approximately 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, McAneney was arrested following a trespassing incident at Rock Bar, located at 225 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.

While police were attempting to detain McAneney, they said he became “uncooperative and violent.”

“The defendant began to grab onto the barrier gates to the business, so I grabbed him under his arms in attempt to make him release his grip,” an officer wrote in McAneney’s arrest report. “Once away from the bar, I let go of the defendant who then grabbed by arm/shirt and attempted to pull me down, placing me off balance, (and) nearly falling through the barrier into the roadway where traffic was flowing.”

The responding officer wrote that he then punched McAneney two times in the face and brought him to the ground where he continued to “actively resist our attempts to place him into custody” before he was eventually taken to jail.

Police stated that McAneney had been removed from several bars through the evening for “causing disturbances.”

FSU’s website states that McAneney is from Plumbridge, Ireland, and he is listed as a sophomore on the team.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest were not immediately released. However, state prosecutors said in bond court Thursday that he is visiting South Florida while on spring break.

Records show McAneney’s bond was set at $2,750, and he remained behind bars at the Broward Main Jail as of Thursday morning.

A spokesperson with FSU Athletics told Local 10 News that McAneney was “suspended indefinitely from all team activities.”
