MIAMI — High School Spotlight shines on Southridge, where the Spartans hosted True North Academy Thursday evening.

The Titans, wearing gray and purple, got on the board first when Zachary Katz found Jahmir McCall for a touchdown.

Later, Katz came back with another big play. He faked the handoff before finding Jaden Daniels, who broke free and took off down the field.

True North was on its way to its first win, leading 40-13 late in the fourth quarter.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, HML faced South Miami.

Miami Lakes trailed 6-0 in the first quarter but was driving. Jahvarie Grant finished the drive with a touchdown to tie the game at six.

South Miami answered with a long scoring drive of its own, capped by Quantez Smith’s touchdown. The extra point put the Cobras up 14-6.

South Miami held on for a 34-20 win and improved to 3-2.

In a neighborhood rivalry between Ely and undefeated Deerfield Beach, neither team could score after a long lightning delay, sending the game into overtime.

The Bucks came up empty on their possession, and the Tigers took advantage, walking it off on a touchdown pass.

Ely blanked Deerfield Beach 6-0.
