Walter Murphy's profile
Walter Murphy is a 2x Emmy nominated journalist who joined Local 10 News in July 2025. He is excited to bring his investigative drive and on-the-ground experience to South Florida audiences.

Walter’s watchdog reporting has driven change across several states he’s worked. While in Memphis, his coverage of the devastating, deadly tornadoes drove pressure for officials to request FEMA aid for West Tennessee. While in Detroit, his reporting during a Southwest Detroit water main break in winter 2025 delivered critical updates as thousands of residents faced flooding and frozen homes.

Walter also covered severe weather outbreaks live for CNN and reported extensively on LGBTQ+ issues, including being the first to report a Tennessee bill seeking to ban public drag shows — which was later struck down in federal court after the group he interviewed sued the State of Tennessee.

Walter understands the importance of journalism — and being a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves. If you have a story you’d like to share or a news tip, he can be reached at WMurphy@WPLG.com.
