The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a plan to eliminate weather research facilities across the country. Last week, scientists and elected officials predicted dire consequences.
The plan calls for closing all NOAA research labs, including a South Florida facility focused on researching hurricanes, which would reduce NOAA’s full-time staff by about 17%.
Critics warn of losing data that dramatically improves predictions and forecasts.
Now director emeritus, Robert Atlas was the longtime director of the South Florida lab. He joined “This Week in South Florida” host Glenna Milberg to discuss, and their conversation can be seen at the top of this page.
