PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — Last week, we got our first look at plans to give Florida voters a say in how to lower their property tax, or possibly ditch them all together.
A committee of state lawmakers unveiled eight new proposals that they’ll take to session in a few months.
Three of the eight eliminate property taxes in various ways, two create certain exemptions and three others propose some reform. All eight protect the taxes that fund schools and protect law enforcement budgets.
State Rep. Tom Fabricio, a Republican representing northwest Miami-Dade County, Miami Lakes and a portion of Hialeah, and State Sen. Shevrin Jones, a Democrat representing north and eastern Miami-Dade County, from Miami Gardens to Miami Beach, joined “This Week in South Florida” host Glenna Milberg to discuss. Their conversation can be seen at the top of this page.
