PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — Tough conversations are being had due to the public release of a group chat that was meant to be private.
None of the young Miami-Dade County Republicans involved in the racist, anti-Semitic, sexist chat is addressing it publicly.
Their party leaders are mostly posting statements, scrambling to condemn it, then fix it, take hold of the narrative and show there is an appetite for accountability.
FIU President Jeanette Nunez said campus police is working with local, state and federal law enforcement in regard to the chat, and FIU’s Offices of Civil Rights and Student Conduct are investigating.
State. Rep Alex Rizo, a Republican representing parts of Miami-Dade County, and State Rep. Mike Gottlieb, a Democrat from Broward County, joined “This Week in South Florida” host Glenna Milberg to discuss, and their conversation can be seen at the top of this page.
