Nike may have already won the Tokyo Olympics but that's OK
Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge runs during his attempt to bust the mythical two-hour barrier for the marathon on October 12 2019 in Vienna. Eliud Kipchoge captured the imagination and admiration of millions when he broke the mythical two-hour barrier for the marathon distance in Vienna last October. During the race he was wearing the Nike "Alphafly" shoe a prototype of the "Alphafly NEXT%" that Nike said last week will be sold to the public and legally eligible for official races. The new version is said to be even more beneficial to a runner than the 2016 Nike "Vaporfly" shoe which has seen official men's and women's marathon records tumble. Nike Chief Executive John Donahoe has also rejected the idea that the technology gives athletes an unfair advantage.cnbc.com
Olympics marathon moved because of heat fears
iStock/JordiDelgado(CNN) - The marathon and long-distance walking events at next year's Olympics have been moved from Tokyo to Sapporo to avoid a repeat of the recent World Championships in Doha where athletes toiled in searing heat and humidity. Organizers had also upped safety provisions in Doha, increasing the number of medical staff and bringing in ice baths. Last weekend was a landmark moment for both the men's and women's marathons as Eliud Kipchoge became the first person to run under two hours, while Brigid Kosgei knocked more than a minute off the women's world record at the Chicago Marathon. He will look to defend his Olympic marathon title from Rio at Tokyo next year. Kosgei clocked a time of 2:14:04 in Chicago, a minute and 21 seconds faster than Paula Radcliffe's record set in 2003.

Speaking before the marathon, the reigning Olympic marathon champion said he was aware that there were critics of the manufactured conditions surrounding the attempt. He added that the 1:59 Challenge is different to competing in a race like the Berlin Marathon, where he set the current world record in 2018. "Berlin is running and breaking a world record," said Kipchoge.

Scientist questions Eliud Kipchoge's idea
Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya celebrates at the victory ceremony winning the BMW Berlin Marathon 2017 on September 24, 2017 in Berlin, Germany. What Kipchoge is doing is taking gravity out of the equation," Tucker told CNN Sport. I am already the record holder for marathon but I need to do this for the human family." Running, especially marathon running, is supposed to be the purest thing humans put themselves through. Whether Kipchoge's attempt is as revolutionary as a moon landing or more akin to high jumping on Mars is a matter of opinion.
