According to his family, the home where the shooting occurred belongs to a family whom Swerdloff had been friends with for most of his life. FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – An officer with the U.S. Marshals State District Appeals Court was shot Thursday before noon when someone tried to enter his truck outside a Walmart in Florida City, police say. Florida City Police say the officer, 38-year-old Timothy Hunsberger, parked his black Ford F-150 on the store’s east-side access road to eat lunch when a man he didn’t know tried to open the driver’s side door of the truck. Hunsberger pulled his gun, and in a struggle with the unknown subject, Hunsberger was shot in his upper left shoulder. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Florida City Police.

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – 3 men were shot when a group of people got into an argument that escalated into gunfire at a flea market, according to police. Witnesses told police that there was first a verbal argument, which then led to a physical fight. During the fight, gunfire was exchanged and three men, ages 18, 19 and 52, were shot, police said. Both victims were transported to Jackson South Medical Center, where the woman is reportedly in critical but stable condition.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. A man and a woman were shot Tuesday during a small gathering inside a hotel room in Homestead, authorities confirmed on Wednesday. Fernando Morales said in a news release that officers responded to the Floridian Hotel at 990 N. Homestead Blvd. Tuesday and found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds. He said there were about five people inside the room drinking alcohol when Angel Ruiz, 18, pulled out a gun. Ruiz was arrested on charges of culpable negligence involving a firearm and discharging a firearm in public.

ISLAMORADA, Fla. – A man kite surfing in the Florida Keys was airlifted to a hospital after slamming into a house Monday. Adam Myers, 49, of Toronto, was found unconscious about 100 feet from the water behind an Islamorada home around 3 p.m. Paramedics began treating Myers at the scene before Monroe County sheriff’s deputies arrived. Witnesses told deputies that it appeared Myers lost control of the kite and dragged him across the beach and onto the property at Costa Bravo Drive. Myers was no more than five or six feet off the ground when he hit a sliding glass door. Myers was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where his condition has not been released.

MIAMI - A security guard is facing a manslaughter charge after he accidentally shot and killed a 62-year-old woman Friday afternoon, police said. Alejandro Cabrera-Cruz, 54, was arrested Monday and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. According to a Miami-Dade police report, Cabrera-Cruz was working as a security guard at a business on Southwest 184th Street near Southwest 110th Avenue and didn't have a holster for the gun he was given by his employer. A man tried to rescue his neighbor from a burning home early Tuesday in Cutler Bay. CUTLER BAY, Fla. - An early morning house fire Tuesday in Cutler Bay left one man dead and another man injured. A neighbor ran inside to try to save the man trapped inside the burning home, but he was unsuccessful. According to the neighbor's daughter, two dogs ran out when her father opened the door to the burning house. The man who tried to save his neighbor was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - A gathering at a home in Cutler Bay ended with a close-knit family in mourning Sunday when a gun accidentally discharged, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel took a man from the home near Cutler Ridge Park to Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall, where he was pronounced dead. MONROE COUNTY, Fla. - A 52-year-old homeless man was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami Sunday afternoon after he was reportedly struck by another homeless man, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. George Wesley Shaia was airlifted after the 11:30 a.m. incident at a homeless camp near 100 County Road on Big Pine Key, according to deputies. Shaia told newly arrived Deputy Donald Stullken that he was talking to a homeless woman at the camp when another homeless man sucker punched him in the back of the head, deputies said. Stullken noticed the cut to Shaias head as well as his left eye, which was swollen and turning purple, according to deputies. Stullken later found the woman who spoke with Shaia, but she was too intoxicated to make a statement, according to deputies.
