Iranian dissident filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s revenge thriller “It Was Just an Accident” has won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

It took nearly until the end of the festival, but the Cannes Film Festival has its first outright sensation.

As much as the Cannes Film Festival basks in the Côte d’Azu sunshine, storm clouds have been all over its movie screens at the festival, which on Monday passed the halfway point.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival is over, ending in dramatic fashion with a power outage ahead of the closing ceremony that bestowed the Palme d’Or trophy to Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s film, “It Was Just an Accident."

Perhaps as much as ever, all eyes in the movie world will be on the 78th Cannes Film Festival when it gets underway Tuesday in the South of France.
