As we continue to unwind and reset on this final evening of winter break, temperatures will cool into the 60s. A cold front is currently over the region, but it lacks moisture. Drier air aloft continues to mix down to the surface, limiting rain chances. While conditions will remain mostly dry tonight, an isolated shower cannot be ruled out.

High pressure building over the Gulf will keep South Florida’s weather quiet and comfortable. Winds will be light out of the north, and dry air higher in the atmosphere will limit widespread rain. That said, there is still just enough moisture near the surface along the Atlantic and East Coast to allow for a few brief, stray showers today. Rain chances are low overall but not zero — especially near the coast — which is why forecast rain chances were nudged slightly higher into the 10% to 20% range.

After several days of dry weather, a cold front is expected to bring on-and-off rain across South Florida on Monday. Scattered morning showers may affect the commute, with a brief break around lunchtime. As the front moves south of the region, additional showers are likely in the afternoon and evening.

Southwest winds are set to promote record warmth across South Florida on Sunday, with a high near 86 degrees. If we reach that mark, Miami will tie the record of 86 set in 1978.

South Florida will be feeling record heat this afternoon. A switch in our wind direction from the Everglades will allow temperatures to reach several degrees warmer than yesterday. Highs will peak around 86°, which is the record for Miami today. A stray light shower is possible late today but many will stay dry with rain chances no higher than 20%.
The big rains from yesterday have ended, but we will still have an occasional shower or two around.
