An arrest has been made following Monday night’s fatal shooting of an off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office corrections deputy, the agency announced Thursday.

Palm Beach County deputies said they had no choice but to shoot a black bear roaming a residential neighborhood over the weekend after a trapper failed to show up, but state wildlife officials are disputing their account and rationale.

Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office communications officer Jesse Mesa estimates she was searching for a kidney for six years. Life just kept getting in the way for the mother of two, who has battled Lupus since her diagnosis in 2004. Mesa opted to shelve the kidney search while Hamilton recovered. Savoie and Mesa entered Cleveland Clinic on December 12 to undergo a successful kidney transplant. “I say it a lot, Savoie is giving me the gift of life” Mesa said.
