FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Former Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones was walking around Davie before dawn Wednesday carrying a fully loaded handgun and smelling like alcohol, police say. He was arrested and faces a charge of carrying a concealed firearm. When Davie officers made contact with Jones, who lives in Plantation, they say ā€œthe grip of a handgun [was] protruding from his front right pants pocket.ā€Police say it was a fully loaded and chambered handgun, and that Jones told them he does not have — and has never held — a concealed weapons permit. Jones, the Dolphins' highest-paid player at $13 million, suffered a cracked rib earlier this season and played in just four games. Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard played in just five games before going on injured reserve last month with a knee injury. Receiver Gary Jennings also went on injured reserve Wednesday. Safety Adrian Colbert was signed off Seattle's practice squad, linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel was activated from injured reserve and defensive tackle Gerald Willis was promoted from the practice squad.

Jones, the Dolphins' highest-paid player at $13 million, has played in only three games this season and was limited in practice Wednesday. Rookie linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel was activated from injured reserve after missing the first nine games with a foot injury. Van Ginkel was a fifth-round draft pick in April. The move means Miami cornerbacks Xavien Howard (knee) and Aqib Talib (ribs) must remain on injured reserve and won't return this season.
