The center of Tropical Storm Ernesto passed over the Virgin Islands east of Puerto Rico late Tuesday, bringing rounds of torrential rainfall to the U.S. territories that continued into Wednesday morning.

Philippe, the erratic tropical storm that first formed 13 days ago and brought widespread flooding to the eastern Caribbean – from Dominica and Guadeloupe westward to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands – for the first half of this week is transitioning into a much larger extratropical storm system and setting a weekend collision course for Maine and Atlantic Canada

Philippe continued to bring heavy rains to parts of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Wednesday, producing areas of flooding from widespread totals of 4-8 inches over the islands. The rains will continue to taper off today as Philippe finally begins to accelerate northward and away from the Caribbean.

(CNN) - The search in the Virgin Islands for missing American Lucy Schuhmann was expanded on Wednesday, police said. Officials expanded their search after receiving a tip called into Crimestoppers on Wednesday morning, said Karl Caesar, a spokesman for the Virgin Islands Police Department told CNN. The search area in St. John now includes a body of water near the pond where investigators searched on Monday. A multiagency search ensued, including resources from the Virgin Islands Police Department and St. John Rescue. The US Coast Guard, divers and snorkelers have helped look for the missing woman around the southern shoreline of the Virgin Island National Park, near where her rental vehicle was found, officials said.

Tropical Storm Karen is moving north, away from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. But as for the storm itself, Puerto Rico had feared much more fallout. Schools and airports were closed across the territory, but Dorian's path went further east than anticipated.
