A young child – between the ages of 0 and 4 – was diagnosed with measles last month in Broward County, Local 10 News learned Friday.

Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Jose Dotres provided an update Thursday on the one case of measles at Palmetto Senior High School, saying Thursday that “everything is very stable.”

Some students at Miami Palmetto Senior High School say they’re reducing social interactions amid concerns over a confirmed case of measles.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials confirmed Tuesday that there has been a reported measles case at one of the district’s high schools.

A patient who returned from a trip is the latest measles patient in Florida. The Polk County case of the highly contagious airborne virus increased the state’s total confirmed cases from nine to ten. The other nine cases are in Broward County.

Data from the Florida Department of Health shows there are now nine cases of measles in Broward County.

Two children are the newest measles patients on Sunday in Broward County. The spread of the highly contagious airborne virus increased the total cases from six to eight in Broward.

Measles, a highly contagious airborne virus also known as rubeola, recently infected half a dozen Broward County Public Schools students even though it can be prevented by two doses of vaccine.

A sixth confirmed measles case has been confirmed at Manatee Bay Elementary School. The Broward superintendent visited the campus Tuesday to reassure parents.
