Heavy rain floods streets in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood

Heavy rain left parts of Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood under water again Wednesday Rain continues to flood streets in Miami's Edgewater area.

MIAMI — Heavy rain left parts of Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood under water again Wednesday, with flooded streets forcing drivers and pedestrians to navigate through several inches of standing water.

The flooding was reported just off Biscayne Boulevard, where residents said it has become a familiar problem during the recent string of downpours.

“People are worried about their cars stalling out,” said Local 10’s Saira Anwer, noting that umbrellas were out as stormwater pumps worked overtime to keep up.

The city has placed multiple pump stations throughout the neighborhood to help drain the streets more quickly, and crews said water levels have been receding faster than in past years.

Still, the repeated flooding has frustrated residents who say it disrupts traffic and damages vehicles.

This week’s storms mark the third consecutive day of heavy rain in Edgewater, where low-lying streets are particularly vulnerable.

City officials urged drivers to avoid flooded roadways and said they will continue monitoring pump stations throughout the week as more rain is expected.
