Jan. 12: Coldest air in 2 years for South Florida to possibly arrive later this week

It’s a gloomy start to the work week with lots of clouds and occasional showers moving in. This will keep high temperatures only in the 70s today, which is a big change from the record heat in the middle 80s yesterday. It will be mostly cloudy all week with rounds of showers at times. This breaks a 28-day streak without measurable rain at Miami International Airport.

The big story will be a powerful cold front moving through Thursday afternoon. It will bring a huge drop in temperatures Friday morning when we wake up to the middle 40s. Some inland areas could flirt with the 30s. It’s slightly colder than our New Year’s Eve front and potentially the coldest air in 2 years for South Florida. Highs on Friday will only reach the middle 60s, even with full sunshine.
