As skies remain mainly clear, temperatures are forecast to drop to 80°F overnight across Miami-Dade and Broward counties. That will be a measure of relief after Miami reached 100°F Tuesday afternoon -- its all-time record high and only the second time in its recorded history the mercury has soared to that temperature.

There is the potential for more record warmth Wednesday. The combination of sunshine and gentle, northwest winds could send temperatures well into the 90s. If Miami reaches 97°F, it will surpass the record high for the date. The heat index is forecast to peak at or over 105°F. Thunderstorms may develop after 4 p.m.
