HIALEAH, Fla. — Hialeah is ranked one of the worst places to spend Thanksgiving, according to finance website Wallet Hub.
Miami-Dade County’s second-largest city is just one from the bottom in a recent survey that rated affordability, weather, and celebratory atmosphere.
But on this Thanksgiving, Hialeah residents beg to differ.
“I don’t think so,” said resident Yusmen Lemas. “Where are the facts to back that?”
Michelle Perez said she was planning to spend the holiday with friends and family.
“It’s unique. Everybody is closer,” Perez said.
For the Gonzalez family, the American tradition - infused with Cuban flavor - has been going strong for four decades.
“We always celebrate every year because we’ve got to be blessed that we have food and a roof, and our families are together,” said Chavelis Gonzalez.
They plan to feed nearly 40 people this year with turkey, rice and beans, and a spread of desserts.
“Hialeah has big families, I think that’s the best part,” Lemas said.
