TAMARAC, Fla. — What inspectors found at a former 7-Eleven at 3101 West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac on Sept. 25 was more than troubling.
The store racked up 14 violations, including rodent activity, unsafe food handling, and filthy conditions. To make matters worse, the store was operating without a valid food permit.
The inspection report details a disturbing scene at the coffee bar.
Inspectors discovered numerous rodent droppings, a rodent trap and chewed food packages, including hamburger buns, a granola bar and single-serve snack items. Cabinets under the coffee bar were contaminated with gnawed products, while the surrounding area was littered with old food wrappers, spilled drinks and garbage seepage. Inspectors issued a stop-use order for the entire coffee bar.
Food safety was also compromised at the hot food station. Tornados, chicken wings and hot dogs were being held at temperatures as low as 97 degrees Fahrenheit, far below the required 135 degrees.
The food was deemed unsafe, and a stop-sale order was issued. The items were destroyed on site.
Inspectors also shut down the store’s hot food roller, which was coated with old food debris and carbon buildup.
Additional violations included improperly stored cleaning chemicals and insect repellents placed near food and utensils, creating more risks of contamination. Open packages of hot dogs and other items were not properly date-marked, a basic food safety requirement.
The problems at this 7-Eleven go beyond dirty counters and sloppy practices. Inspectors made it clear: the store is operating illegally, without a valid food permit for 2025. A follow-up inspection is scheduled for Oct. 9, and the state warns that if the rodent infestation and sanitation issues are not resolved, it could impose tougher penalties, including shutting down more areas of the store and halting food sales altogether.
Editor’s note: Local 10 News has learned that the business no longer operates under the 7-Eleven brand.
